Production on the '03 Cobra halted. Definitly not what Ford needs right now

How could Ford possibly screw up their best car? SVT is supposed to be the best in ford quality and they screwed it up. I've heard rumours of it being an overheating problem, but it's not fact. :(

it could have been a supplier issue too. Maybe a supplier effed things up royally. It has been done before.

Wait a sec, the beginning of that article says...
Ford Motor Company has stopped production of the 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra due to quality concerns.

Then two paragraphs later it says...
All Cobras currently made will be released and shipped to consumers after being held at Dearborn since 21 October 2002.

If they're concerned about quality why are they shipping them to consumers at all? I guess they fixed them? And if they did, then why would production be lost if they know what to fix? Seems very odd to me.

the engines are hand built i believe. But if it's a design flaw, no amount of quality control can help it. if it IS overheating, it could be that the stock rad isn't enough to deal with long WOT runs with the extra hp, not to mention the heat from the supercharger.

Hmm, I see heavy discounts on the remaining stock. Heavy discounts as in "just take the damn thing!" :D

I'd like to hear what and whose problem it actually is before I start ragging all over it.

Blueoval news also said the 03 was going to have 3.0 supercharged Jag Engine. I certainly don't get my ford news from blueoval news.

Also a 2002 COBRA did not exist...

At least not in the States. The aussies got the whole production run.

One last response, when ford recalls or actually stops productions I will swallow my hat.

Weren't there a few 02 Cobra's but Ford pulled them because the engine didn't develop the power they were promising?

You are right though this is not what Ford needed.

<<Ford will try and resume Cobra production on or about 15 November 2002. >>

So they are stopping production for all of 2 weeks. Big deal. This is just BlueOval trying to stir up something. I wouldn't read much into it. It could be a lack of parts or something else.

It's almost impossible to keep them in stock at $5k OVER sticker price, much less at a discount.

Yea they're hand built. It was flawed from the beginning - they blew up 8 aluminum 4.6's before switching to cast iron. They should have just dropped the L engine into it - it's proven both in stock form and modded. Wasn't it intercooled anyway?

hard to cram that L engine into the mustang (though its been done)... maybe with the new platform they'll be able to a bit easier

i'm sure they would have but you pretty much have to put Astroglide on the 5.4 to get it to fit. For the Cobra R it had to be dropped in from above the car, but the assembly line is set up to have the engine come from underneath, so they stuck with the 4.6. at least until the next gen comes out :)
