production line mother boards

Are production line mother boards ie Dell,HP,Compac of inferior quality compared to the after market boards available thru newegg and other retailers?? 😕

HP - (from my personal experience) AsusTek makes their motherboards and VGA cards in the Pavilions. So the Quality and stability should be the same as Retail, but HP puts a different BIOS chip than retail and AsusTek Provides no support.

DELL - is a good IC manufacturer. I really do not know who makes their motherboards, but usually it is pretty good. But usually there is limited BIOS feature's. And I had 2 Dell Dimensions (p2 @450) I found in a dumpster after a bank was upgrading and it works still. Hehe if that isnt quality I dunno what is.

Compaq - The WORST of them all. From my experience LIMITED CPU/RAM/VGA upgrade. Bad quality, usually just dies after a year and a half. Limited BIOS also. (Gateway is in the same Category as Compaq for me)

BUUUT!! I LOVE those propietory cases, they look better that that Aluminum stuff people pay over 200 bucks for. Stainless steel and heavy components make a better case rather than cheap, flimsy soda cans.

Both HP and Sony use ASUS boards.

Dell uses OEM Intel (most of the time).

IBM has been using MSI for some recent models.

Thanks for the info..I have a Compac mod.7935 that I bought at ubid few years ago. It shipped w/a Athlon 550 slot. I wanted to upgraded it to a Ath.950 but was advised by Compac that the BIOS would require flash/upgrade so I did it and the Ath.950 has been running ever since. Although the HD failed but Compac sent me a new one free. This comp.was sold as a refurb.so I was suprised when the new HD showed up at the front door after I advised Copmac it failed. So now I'am wondering/waiting to hear if BioStar M7VIF kt333 board is going to be a success. Anybody know if the Alpha Pal heat sink will fit on the BioStar?? Have had good success w/BioStar mob. Have two other puters built around the M7MKE and their rocks. BioStar may not be a good O.C. choice but that's not my game..
