Product related question Netgear 814 vs. 814v2

The 814 had this great 5dbi antenna, and I got great range out of it on a couple of occasions. Now they are replacing it with the MR814v2 which has been "miniaturized" and seems to "fall short" in the antenna department, but relies on a new chipset. Which one should I get for my next network?

the v2 has updated firmware, and is ready to go out of the box. The original really needs a firmware update to correct some issues. The one I work with had faults in its dynamic dns client, and the update provided some improved functionality for setting up static routes and servers.

People tend to think that a new version is an improved or better one.

Improving, or making it better is usually the last on the list of the manufactures reason for issuing a new version.

A lot of time it due to expired contract with a cheapest maker, or a shortage of parts, or retooling the manufacture Robots to share the assembly line with other products, or just a marketing strategy (ploy) due to circumstances that we unaware of.

If my current hardware is lacking of something specific that I need, I would find a new ?Gizmo? that can do what I need, otherwise I leave it alone.

I have a bunch of SMC 7004BR (circa 2001) they do perfectly what they need to do. Getting is new plastic box will not make it better.
