Product ID question.

How is the product ID generated? Do all Dells have the same one? If not all dells do all windows XP pro sp2 dells have the same one? Is the product ID generated by just the cd key? I know that Dells use special copys of windows that don't use the actul CD key on the case of the dell so would they be the same?
