I?m trying to help a friend upgrade his Gateway computer?s processor to the max. The board is an intel (Tabor 2) BX Motherboard with Integrated Audio R3 (82443BX PMC, 82371EB PIIX4e). Gateway support says it will only take a 550MHz Slot-1 processor. Does any know how high we can max this out or is Gateway correct? I do know the memory maximum is 3x128MB PC100.

Thanks all.

That is correct.

You are fortunate to be able to use a P3 550 in that. The Gateway motherboards are notorious for not having much for options in the bios, they just write the bios to accept the processor(s) they plan to use with this motherboard. Sometimes they will revise a bios to include more processors if the mobo lives that long.

My ex-girlfriend's Gateway is running a P2 350 and won't accept anything over a P2 450 but it is a BX chipset without the support in the bios and Gateway never released a bios upgrade for her system.
