Processor Upgrade for Dell 1100

There u have it, i currently have a 2.0 Celeron and i was hoping to go to a P4 2.4 ---> 3.06, i was just curious what chips would fit and run in my laptop. As Stated, i have a Dell inspirion 1100

I was hoping that 2.2 wasnt the fastest P4 that I could use. Just wanna know my options. Thanks for helping

What's not running fast enough? You might get a decent performance gain from adding more ram and upgrading your hdd.

just all around system proformance is lagging, i just want an overall better CPU, i have 512mb pc 2100. and also that i have some extra money to make my laptop a little better. Thanks for the responses

You might get the info you need at the Dell forum. I have an 1100 with the 2.2 Celeron and am pretty happy with it since I am not into gaming, etc. I would think that if you look at the options for custom configurations you can probably see the highest it will go. But, it might be hard to actually upgrade it. There is one fellow who posts to that forum frequently who must have a business working on Dell's. He posted a link to show how to change the processor. Check dell's website for the service manual, it will show you how to upgrade various components yourself, including the processor. The link to the service manual is here

Now if the Inspiron 1100 series comes with P4 cpus, what is the highest Inspiron 1100 configuration you can get on their website for the cpu?

Perhaps a faster Hard Drive might come in handy as well? If you have a 4200 rpm, then going to a 5400 or even 7200 rpm hard drive would definately speed up your games

the highest P4 they allow on the Dell website is the 2.2
but the FSb is 400, so i was hoping that any "A" core would work.

Probably anything higher than the 2.2 P4 would require BIOS support; something Dell is exceedingly slow at doing. I agree with earlier recommendations though; go to the Dell user Forums for Inspirons. Someone there will be able to answer your question with more accuracy.
BTW, a really knowledgable user on that forum is named johnallg. Look him up there. I just did a quick search over there and one user reported that as long as the CPU is a 1.5 volt model, it should work. He had a P4-2.8 in his and it was recognized by the system. Again though, that is second hand, unconfirmed material, so YMMV.

asked the same exact question not too long ago on the dell forums...i got a responce from the dood who said he did a 2.8 in there...
