Been thinking about replacing my current Duron 750 sometime around Christmas, and I have a couple of questions:
First, will an Athlon XP work in my old Epox 8kta-3 mainboard? That's not quite right, but I'm not sure how else to phrase it. I know the thing will fit (both socket A), but will the board accept it and detect it correctly? Something tells me that I need to update the board's BIOS to take full advantage of the new CPU, and I could have sworn that I saw a new, Athlon-XP compatible BIOS up on epox's website a few weeks ago. but it seems to have disappeared.
Also, what Heatsink would be good? I know this gets asked a million times a day, but don't shoot me. I had every intention of putting an Alpha PAL8045 on here, but then I saw a compatability list (can't remember where it was off the top of my head) that said it would fit. Anybody want to confirm/disprove this? If it won't fit, what is another good, relatively quite (NO DELTAS!!!) hsf that I can use. I don't plan on OCing, if that helps.
Nate
