Whats the cheapest cpu that will work in a gigabyte GA p35 D3SL motherboard. I saw a single core celeron for 29 something, anything cheaper and can run XP 32 bit?

You found a CPU for $29, you're not going to get lower then that unless you go for a used one off of E-bay.

Or a used one in FS/FT.

OP: If you haven't already bought that motherboard, build a new system with an Opteron 144, a 939 motherboard and 2GB of RAM. It will fly.

Any particular reason you're using a cheapo chip with a fairly expensive motherboard?

If not, a better value would be X2 4800+ for $60 and a dirt-cheap AM2 motherboard ($42 AR).

That pair stock will easily outperform the celeron single-core even when OC'ed and costs about what the DS3L costs by itself.

AMD really has some good value at the low end these days!

I already have the motherboard with an e8400. I am getting away from gaming, so I am trying to make some money out of stuff I wont need like the E8400 and 8800GTX. I have decided to go with the E2180, is that a good choice?

Yes, the E2180 is a fine choice. Overclock it to 3.0Ghz or slightly more if it can handle it, and it will run well for quite some time.

you can probably get one somewhere for nothing that wouldn't work, NOW THAT's CHEAP!

Look around the FS/FT forum and also eBay before you buy new.

I just picked up a new/oem e4500 on eBay for $70 shipped (since I have a TX2 I got for $2 I'm fine with oem). There are good deals out there if you hunt a little.
