Processor Power

This may sound like a newbie question, but I haven't been keeping up so well on the AMD processors lately. I built an Intel system about 2 -3 years ago. I've got the itch to build a new rig again, but I'm unsure what is the better chipset to run.

I went before with the Intel system because of stability and at the time, they seemed the best to me on overall performance. I'm a dedicated gamer, so I'm also looking for a setup that will allow for those various upgrades in the future and hopefully won't be an outdated chipset in the near future. (ie, 1-2 years).

I've heard a bit about the new dual core AMDs and my old system was before all the 64 bit move that's been happening. So it seems that the AMDs are ahead of the game right now. But i've seen the AMD FX-55 and the AMD 64 x2 and truthfully I don't know which is better or why??? Or how they actually compare with the Intel chips. I know that the hz of the chip are not congruent, so I just can look at that anymore.

Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm looking for top of the line equipment that will be viable for, hopefully, a year (if possible).

Thanks
Cyah

amd is superior to intel right now in gaming. if you are a gamer go amd. if you have a lot of money, buy an X2, or buy an fx55 or fx57 if you dont want to multitask. otherwise, just muy a 3200 venice and a dfi ultra-d and overclock it to fx-57.

If you are expecting to get upgrades in 1-2 years you might want to rethink. Starting next year AMD with have socket M2 out. This means there won't be an abundance of new processors. However if you just want to upgrade gpu, ram, etc... then it should be fine

We cannot sum up everything that has happened in 2 years. Read the AT write ups on the CPUs and then if you have question im sure everyone would be happy to help.
