processor OC advice

go the amd for sure, easy to unlock and seems to be a bit more easier to maintain at a overclocked state with better cooling.

You should be able to get a MUCH better overclock with the P4. People have been getting around 3 GHz + with the C1's and stock cooling. You might get 200-300 MHz out of the AMD, and even then you will probably have to get a pretty niosy fan to cool it as AMD CPU's only overclock well when they are running cool.

Assuming both cpus are widely avaliable for about the same price, then I will go with P4. It is true that when overclocking, P4 does tend to go a bit higher than AMD, however higher speed doesn't always means better performance......🙂...just my $.02

You are right Akahia, except the XP 2600+ costs about $100 more than a 2.4B, so we aren't really comparing equals here.

Boyne7, I am curious about your choices. Why aren't you also considering the 2.66 GHz P4, which costs about the same as the XP 2600+, or the XP 2400+, which costs about the same as the P4 2.4B?

I would do the research and look for the P4 1.8a with C1 stepping. Or wait a couple of months and get the 1700+ T-bred "B".
