Processor not initializing...help!

Hi guys,

Well, last night I cleaned out my case, and after re-inserting my XP2100, the processor won't boot up.

I'll tell you exactly what I did so that no details are missed.
- Put in new Aspire 500W power supply
- Cleaned out case and dust, etc.
- Installed secondary hard drive connected to ATA-PCI card
- Installed ATA-PCI Card

Once I restarted my computer, no video happened, and the computer gives a few beeps. I tried the D-Link, and it gets stuck on the seventh process (Processor Initialization)

Does anyone know how to fix this? The chip was working absolutely fine before I re-seated it.

It sounds like you need to reseat it one more time. Either that, or you forgot to plug in your heatsink's fan. Some motherboards don't let the processor initialize if the proc. fan isn't plugged in.
 
Hi again, okay, what happens is the processor begins to boot up, but then it gets to the "boot attempt" stage and beeps a few times, and then it freezes at Processor Initialization.

ARGHHH! Does this mean I need a new chip? it was working last night before I reseated it.
 
I agree with pspada, take out the card.
If still no boot, take out the PSU, and put the old one in.

Also, does the cpu have thermal paste on it?
If it does, make sure it is all on the die (read: center chip).

I only have one chip, and I thermally pasted the chip, though I'll redo the whole thing over to check it out.
 
Reset the CMOS. The instructions should be in manual to locate the Jumper.

I have no idea what it is about MSI boards but they tend to do this alot. I just RMA'ed one to MSI for the same thing and all I did was change the FSB but resetting the CMOS still did not help that "Processor Initializtion" error on that board. Bought a Abit NF-7 becuase I could not wait on the RMA and it booted right up with the same processor and components. This is the second MSI board to get stuck with that error that I owned. The first one I threw away as it really ticked me off getting that error about anytime I even thought about opening my case.
 
Okay, so now the same thing is happening, but after it stops at Processor Initialization, it tries to boot up one last time, and the HSF alarm goes off.
 
It's that most wonderful time of the year! Static electricity may have crept up on you. I live in Miami-Dade County and have bare floors. If you live where heating dries out the air and have carpeting, you may have executed some part of your computer.

I guess I'll give both AMD and MSI a call tomorrow and see what I can do about fixing this problemo!

it could be the ram, try booting up and setting the fsb jumper on 200 instead of 266. See if that helps. Try switching out 1 stick of ram if your running 2. Also try booting while holding down the "delete" or "insert" key. maybe these will work.
btw - double check and see if the heatsink is not put on backwards or improperly.
