Im a HUGE OC noob but I know the basics. I finally decided to crawl out of the hole and OC my i5 2500k. My first step was 3.8GHz, If i remember correctly, all my graphs said it was running below 3.8. Probably at 3.5GHz. And now my next step was 4GHz. I booted up no problem, no post failures. My question is why are all my programs saying its speed is 3.59GHz? Theres gotta be a setting im missing in bios. Im running prime95 right now along with realtemp, cpu-z and Intel Extreme tuning utility(to monitor graphs) if it matters my temps have been staying at a stable temp of about 60-62C. Which from I know is pretty good for 100% load stress testing. So what am I missing here? Its like my speed isnt budging. The base clock is always set at 100mhz. Also my motherboard is an intel DP67BG.

I'm thinking this may be tied up somehow as being a limitation of your mobo and/or chipset.

Checkout this link and tell me if it makes sense to you with respect to what you are seeing with your own eyes.

My only experience with recent Intel chipsets is with their Z-series chipsets and they let you basically do anything and everything to your processor, for a price of course ;)

Hmm, if I read correctly on that, as long as youve got a k processor, your still in the clear. However its not an "actual overclock" its a OC to the intel boost technology. Which comes on anytime theres even a small load. So this might be fine for me. I disable the burst mode because everyone said to do that so it doesnt mess with your OC. Looks like they must have been using Z chipsets. Ill turn it on and try it out.

Well, turned it on and nothing changed. Im stumped here. Im also confused why hes saying everything bad about the board yet all the comments are positive saying things like EPIC BOARD! I cant wait to get it! And some other people are saying theyve got overclocks of like 4.7ghz on it. What?

P and Z chipsets are the same in terms of overclocking.

When you load the CPU with prime95, does CPU-Z also say 3.6Ghz, or does it say 4Ghz? (When you select a 40x multiplier in BIOS).

What are the numbers in CPU-Z while you processor is at full (or close to full) load, and how does this compare to the numbers you set in the BIOS?

Just wanting to make sure we are clear on the numbers, as you mention a few different ones in the first post.

Do you have the latest BIOS for this board (2209)?

Are you running any benchmarks? I had a 2500k also, and no matter what settings I used, it showed in cpuZ as stock. However, at 4Ghz, the windows experience CPU score moved 2 pips.

Looks like turbo overclocking? Raise the 33 multiplier to 40. (Maximum non turbo ratio)

Where can i find 2209? In the bios my BIOS version says : BGP6710J.86A.1900.2011.0210.1012

As for CPU-Z: I noticed something very odd. When I FIRST booted into windows I opened CPU-Z. It said the multiplier was x40.0 and it was pretty much 4Ghz, pretty much as in the base clock keeps moving itself around 99.78 so it was like 3.985GHz. But then, if I stress test, it instantly jumps down to a multiplier of x36.0 and moves around between that and x37.0 That also goes for the graphs. It shows them again, as staying at 3.69ghz. This is one confusing computer. You guys might be thinking, oh pft, simple mistake. Single core is set to 40 while the rest are at like 37. Nope. Every single core is set to x40.0 Im going to try playing WoW or something that takes up a few, not 100% load and see if its 4GHz

Just change the 33x ratio in your screenshot.

The 4 you changed are related to turbo.

This page has the numbers I am seeing. Of course, you will want to make sure I performed the correct search:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...Version=Windows 7 (64-bit)*&DownloadType=BIOS

But then, if I stress test, it instantly jumps down to a multiplier of x36.0 and moves around between that and x37.0

Does you BIOS have an option for setting max temps? Maybe it is throttling if you set those temps too low.

Weird thing about that x33
Ratio. If I try to change it, it just jumps back down to its minimum. It looks like x33 is the max for some odd reason...

What you describe sounds like EIST being disabled.

According to this guide for your mobo: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-031689.htm?wapkw=dp67bg (page 18) you need to adjust cpu voltage override before tuning. Could be limited to stock speeds if you don't.

Maybe also try with this: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...p-boards-software-extreme-tuning-utility.html

It's normal, this setting is only used for underclocking. Overclocking is done by changing turbo multipliers.

If its just a limit, im going to put it on dynamic voltage and keep it stock voltage and see if that works.

I didnt change the voltage, but instead since i noticed everything was showing as it never hitting 4Ghz, i set it to x41 instead. Ive been hitting 4ghz at small 1 second times but ive been getting some weird graphs.

Normally at x40 it was a steady line at times. Now it seems to be confused as to where it is.

Im not sure what voltage to increase here without killing my processor. I put it on dynamic default by the way.

You aint gonna kill it. Try raise with 10% or so and see what happens in terms of your overclock.

Well im guessing the default is just 1 or whatever for the voltage override. So im going to put it at like 1.045 or around there on dynamic
