Processor Model and Stepping burned into heatsink!

Is it normal for my Processor's Model and Stepping info that's written on top of the chip to be permanently engraved on the copper bottom of the heatsink? Looks funny... I bet it degrades performance...
 
I doubt it's burned in as much as vibrated in (by the fan), though I can't be sure. This is perfectly normal. I've rarely swapped a HS from one proc to another, so don't know baout performance. Going back on the same proc, or at least same type (non-barton athlon, FI), I doubt it will affect performance to any noticeable degree.

I dunno if it's normal, but it quite often happens to me.
 
its totally normal. the die is much harder than the copper base of the heatsink, and the pressure of attachment simply stamps the lettering on top of the die into the copper. it should have no effect on anything. you really have no way of preventing this, simply due to the materials you're using, but if you are really worried you could lap the bottom of the heatsink every 20 minutes. 🙂
