Gigabyte 875P motherboard : $180
P4 2.4, 533 MHZ FSB : $150
---------
$330
or

ABIT nForce 2 : $140
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ : $150
---------
$290

The only thing thats bad about intel is the 533 FSB wont use the full 800 FSB potential of the chipset and for AMD the 2600+ isnt barton like the 2500+ one is so I am not sure if it can out compete the 2500+.

what mobo/cpu do you think i should get for maximum gaming performance?

-thanks

try getting the 800MHz P4 if you can. there is a 2.4GHz version coming soon.
but imo, i would go for the Athlon XP

Get a good video card, fast hard drive, a fast 512mb stick of ram, the 2.4B and Gigabyte GA-8IK1100.
$161.00 + $155.00

Then see how far you can overclock the 2.4 maybe able to get 3ghz out of it. I think the video card is most important for gaming.
