Processor Market Prices?

I've been watching T-Bird prices continue to drop - and I drool. as I wait for a new DDR mobo to show it self to be good. I look at Price Watch daily - but am new at this, do these prices level off pretty soon and stay there, OR do they or might they start to rise in price pretty soon???

Also, another question, OEM vs Retail Boxed CPU; can an OEM cpu be inferior to a Retail Boxed cpu of same flavor?? ie. could a OEM say, 1 Gig cpu actually test out at say 980 - but same in Retail would be a true 1 Gig???

TKS and Merry Christmas!

OEM CPU's... 6 of 1, half a dozen the other. Get it?

You're wanting DDR system.. but are looking at CPU prices? Have you priced DDR mem yet? It's still very high dood. Being DDR is about 10% increase.. I'd save that money and get 20% faster CPU.. Like a 1.1gig or something, and get regular ram. 256 megs of it.

If you're drooling for a computer, quit waiting and buy something...

If you wait, there's always going to be something new you're drooling over. 😉

Going to have to go with whitedog here. RAM prices are low right now, those could go up at any time. Get a 1 ghz or 1.1 ghz right now while the AMD processors are very mature and low priced. The new breed of processors that will take advantage of DDR memory will stay at the same price for quite a while. Do yourself and buy a new system now. I just finished building mine about a week ago and couldn't be happier.

Ditto, cyberized. Just get a good motherboard for that T-bird, like the Microstar K7T Pro2 or Pro2A reviewed here and chosen an AnandTech Editor's choice.

Also, when buying stuff, don't go for the lowest price alone, especially at PriceWatch. Check out vendors at ResellerRatings and don't go with a vendor unless they have a 5.0 or better score and lots of raters, IMO
