processor ID help

hi, I have a old computer that i was going to upgrade a little so it can run win 98, its a P1-66 or something. I bidded on a slot 1 Pentium 2 400 off of ebay a week ago since that should make it run decently, and It arrived today, but it didnt boot...so i pried off the heatsink, and the core of this chip is octagonal? Im not sure but i remember reading a long time ago that only P2-200mhz-233 used a octagonal core, and that P2 400's had a square core? Anyone know?

Klamath had an octagonal core, like here:

Seems like they run up to 350MHz, maybe even 400?
