Ok guys, I know that this topic has been beaten to death but I wanted to try to get some opinions on what to do. I have a 1.01 version of the Asus A7V333 and a 1.2ghz T-bird right now. I'm looking into upgrading pretty soon. I was thinking of trying to upgrade fairly cheaply for now. My board only supports processors up to 2400+ since it's an old revision. I don't really want to buy an Nforce 2 board because the upgrade path for it is very limited. If I get a 2400+, the highest I could go would be 3200+ and that does have a higher fsb but it's actually only about 200mhz faster. I'd also need more ram as I have a single stick of Samsung PC2700. I've also thought about trying an A64, but I'm unsure of going with a socket 754 since it also seems to have a very limited upgrade path. Any other parts in my upgrade would carry over. I'm trying to keep it cheap so I can get a decent upgrade and wait until the A64s come down in price some. I know that a lot of boards don't properly recognize the mobile chips very well. My question is whether or not any of you think that a mobile 2400+ would work in my board or should I go with a T-bred 2400+? I won't be able to overclock the T-bred because the multiplier will be locked at 15 and going to 166fsb would be more than I think I could get from the chip. The mobile would default to 1.45 volts but my board only supports 1.65 - 1.85 so I don't know if the chip would even boot up properly. I apologize if this topic has been mentioned 4 million times before but I'm just trying to get some input! Thanks guys!

You should get a mobile 2400 (XP-M 2400) and this motherboard: Shuttle AN35N for $52, today only. For about the same price as a single 512MB stick of PC3200 ram, you can have a mobile Barton that should hit at least 2.3ghz, if not 2.4ghz.
