Processor compatibility question with ASUS A7M266 board

I have an ASUS A7M266 board that I have been running a 1.4Ghz (266 FSB) AMD Athlon T-Bird on. I want to upgrade my processor to an AMD XP processor. However, I noticed that the last official bios (am261007) update for my board only supports up to an AMD XP 2100+ processor. So I went to ASUS's FTP sever to try and find a newer bios revision. I found a bios (1008a2662b) for my board that appears to be a new revision than am261007 but I cannot find out if it supports faster XP processors. Does anyone know?

See this.

And to answer your question, officially, that board only supports up to a Palamino 2100+. T-bred's up to 2600+ also used 133MHz FSB though, but Asus doesn't guarentee that it will work. Peace.

Can someone explain what this means "Palamino 2100+. T-bred's up to 2600+ also used 133MHz FSB though." Are you saying the AMD XP 2100+ and the XP 2600+ use two different chip architectures, one called the palamino and the other called the t'bred?

The Palamino and Thoroughbred names were two different core architectures for the Athlon XP processor. There is no performance difference, although the T'bred uses smaller transistors and lower voltages to achieve higher speeds and cooler temperatures. The T'bred core goes from 1700+ and up, overlapping with the Palaminos. Peace.
