this mght be a stupid comparison, but how does a Pentium 4 2.4ghz 533 fsb perform vs a Athlon64 3000+ venice

The P4 2.4B could be overclocked to about 2.93 GHz. The 2.4E might get up to 3GHz. The Venice 3000+, meanwhile, can get up to 3500+ speeds fairly easily, and often 3700+ or 3800+.
It's possible that the P4 might perform better in specific audio and/or video editing applications, but for the most part it would be very much outrun by the Athlon.
