Hello,

I asked this question a few other forums but seems people got pissed so sorry if My question pisses anyone off.

I'm looking to buy a new processor and wondering if I should go with a quad core or this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115002

My main question is will I see any performance issues in games with a quad core or will games run any faster, I also do a lot 3d modeling and work with 3d max and photoshop a lot. I also do a lot video editing.

So my basic question is the 250+ price tag over the core 2 duo worth spending for the quad core. Also are both pretty easy to OC?

Thanks for any help.

I find the e6700 a lot of money for the little extra clockspeed you get over a e6600 and I feel the same about the e6600 vs the e6400.

Besides, the latter two both OC to e6700 stock speeds with ease. Also, as far as I know only Supreme commander uses 4 cores, and little to no games use even 2 cores. So no you won't. A e6400 or e6600 should both be able to handle photoshop with ease, and won't be the bottlenecks on your 3d modeling either.

Last but not least, Qauds are a lot harder to keep cool when oc-ing, I did see a thread on here somewhere about new qauds that would have a TDP of 95W instead of 105 though, so if OC-ing is your thing, and you're going for a qaud, then wait for those.

If you do a lot of video editing, photoshop, and 3d modeling then I think you are the perfect candidate for a quad core.

I don't think any games will be CPU limited with just about any C2D over 2GHz unless you are running a very fast video card at very low resolutions. Which of course would negate the reason for buying a high-end video card.

i think that this might help since you are going to do those types of work i would go with a quad processor.

I think the answer is easy, with exception for a few games, right now quad won't be much faster than dual core in games but that will change in the upcoming years. If you plan to use this rig for a while and looking into future buy the quad or else save the cash and I'm sure by the time most games move into quad, that extra 250 you saved now can buy you quite a quad CPU then.

As for OC dual will be easier than Quad and you don't even need too good a heatsink to get it high up.

QFT

People are going to water after getting their quads because they get a rude awakening when they try to push it over 3ghz.

1.4v on air on a quad is insane...

I don't know how insane it is for these Quad-Cores. But mine at 3.4GHz 1.40V Runs 52-54 Idle and 63-65 load on Air.

I'm just going build 2 systems & i have water cooling already, I never use just air cooling to much a risk with all crap I have that adds heat.
