Guys (and ladies),

I'm about to build the family another budget computer.

I want one that has at least the performance (or better than my current machine for as absolute cheap as possible).

I was looking at the 64 bit 2600 Socket 754 AMD Chip for like 59.00 at newegg.

I was going to pair it with biostar's new nvidia 6100 chipset motherboard.

Would this set up have the approximate performance (or better) compared to an Athlon XP 3000?

Also, I've got a gig of pc2700 ram laying around. Would that be sufficient or would that hold this setup back and do I need to get better ram?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about being comparible with an XP3000, but it will run fine. As for the gig of pc2700, thats ok. It won't hold up the setup that much. Are you looking to overclock? If so, the 2500+ might be a better option, and might let you overclock to like 2GHZ at 300HTT. I'm not sure about hte biostar though for overclocking. Maybe you can try ATI's R480 chipset for overclocking if your looking to do it.

yeah, i agree with Santa, look into an ATI chipset... I saw one around once that was had realativly good features, but also had the Express 200 IGP, which is pretty much the best IGP out there
