I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a purchase decision that I'm thinking over - the cost of the 2 year used Lenovo x60s is the same as that of a new eee 1005HA.

Lenovo x60s
CPU:T2400 @1.83G(2 CPUS)
Memory:1G
HD:80G
No DVD player or dock station
Warranties good for 1/2 a year

Considering the processing power/speed/multitasking capabilities of the two machines - does anyone have input/feedback/experience regarding which would be a better purchase?

And for convenience, listed are the Asus eee 1005HA specs:

Processor: 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280
Memory: 1GB, 533MHz DDR2
Hard drive: 160GB 5,400rpm
Chipset: Mobile Intel 945GM Express
Graphics: Mobile Intel GMA 950 (integrated)
Dimensions (WD): 10.3 x 7.1 inches
Height: 1.1 - 1.4 inches
Screen size (diagonal): 10.1 inches
System weight / Weight with AC adapter: 2.9/3.4 pounds

Thanks for your help!

I would get the new laptop. What is the price you are looking at?

Also, the x60s keyboard is nice. I had one a few years back. It may be old, but still great.

Having owned an X60s (which recently failed), I have no doubt that it is an excellent machine (it is). My argument is that it is a used item with only a 1/2 year warranty. I believe warranties are actually important when it comes to notebooks (mostly due to your inability to find spare parts). If you were to extend the warranty to a reasonable length, the X60s will will probably end up costing a couple hundred dollars more.

If you're looking for a not-new X60 that comes from the factory inspected and with a full year's warranty standard, check out the Lenovo outlet, who apparently launched a new, better site in the last few days.

If it's in good shape, I'd get the Lenovo. There is a good support network (check out forum.thinkpads.com) for Thinkpads. You would be getting a dual core cpu and a 12 inch screen as well as a great keyboard/design/construction. I have a netbook (samsung) which is real nice, and I love it. But faced with your choice I'd go for the Lenovo provided that the unit was not abused and without any fault/defects. I already have several older thinkpads that still work just fine, by the way and am in the process of upgrading one with more ram and a faster hard drive.

BTW Lenovo VOIDS the warranty when the machine ownership is exchanged.

Obtained from http://shop.lenovo.com/ fineprint:

Warranty: for a copy of applicable warranties, write to: Warranty Information, P.O. Box 12195, RTP, NC, 27709, Attn: Dept ZPYA/B600. Lenovo makes no representation or warranty regarding third party products or services. The Lenovo Limited Warranty applies only to Lenovo hardware products purchased for your own use, and does not transfer upon resale.

I've never noticed this until I was trying to buy a used Lenovo T43 off craigslist. Of course I may be wrong, but it's still better to get a refurbed one directly from their outlet. The 1005HA is about $350? If you're worried about build quality you can always get a S10 off Lenovo's outlet. It's a nifty machine if you're willing to live with some of its quirks (no fn-mute keys, for instance).

I would go with the Thinkpad. After trying out netbooks they are just to dang slow. Even with maxed out ram the darn things can't even play Hulu.
