I downloaded the 3 ISO files for RH 7.3 but whenever I try to burn the file (using Nero 5.5.7.2), the disc gets burned, but I can't access any files on the disc.

The disc(s) cannot be read.

Whats going on here? All other discs I burn are fine. I've even re-downloaded the files a couple of times.

Have you verified the files via its MD5 checksum? Plenty of hash calculators out there.

ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/redhat/7.3/en/iso/i386/

good mirror.

also www.linuxiso.org

When you install Redhat 7.3, don't try to install all packages at once. I've gotten errors towards the end of the instal by doing that. You can come back to upgrade it later. So far Redhat 7.3 blows mandrake 8.2 out of the water. Stay away from mandrake 8.2. It's buggy as hell. Ever since 7.1, each release of mandrake has been worse in terms of bugs. Redhat 7.3 actually has much better hardware support than mandrake (which was what made mandrake famous). both mouse detection and X setup are better supported in Redhat 7.3

If an MD5 checksum does not match exactly, does that mean the image is screwed?

So far, I've downloaded about 6 images (from different sites) using Download Accelerator and not a single ISO MD5 is the same as the posted MD5. Should I stop using Download Accelerator?

Well, each site *should* post the MD5SUM file and each of those files *should* have the same exact information. Check that out first, before trying another download.

Are you splitting up the download over a few sites? Sometimes that can screw up, but I have successfully completed good downloads with GetRight feeding from 5+ servers. Try to focus on one server (preferably one that hauls a$$) and pull one file at a time.

I've had no problems downloading and burning RH cds.

And Pennstate, what kind of bugs does MDK 8.2 have?

Mandrake has problems with the mouse freezing during the install. Also the X config during install has fewer drivers than previous releases. Even with a full install, they didn't even include "bc". They xscreensaver was screwed up. When logging out of gnome, your mouse freezes. no matrix screen saver. By that time, I decided to switch.

My mouse would freeze during mandrake 8.2 install as well, untill I figured out that it only happens if you use your mouse (during install) before it identifies it. If you use keyboard untill it asks you what kind of mouse you have, then you can continue using the mouse for the rest of the install without any problems.

And I switched over to RH too. I've used RH for half a year now, but decided to use mandrake since it supports ntfs out of the box. Well, I installed it, and found out that it can do a directory listing of ntfs volume, but nothing more. So I took it off and am back on RH 7.3 ... and boy do I like the way KDE3 looks =) All I have to do now is recompile the kernel with ntfs support (just reading. I dont need to write to ntfs)
