bios screen detects and shows the drives,it then goes to the xp os selector, I then select xp from the list ,it then shows the xp splash screen with the scroller looking thing on the bottom it then goes to a blank screen and stays there. what is the deal what made this happen? things I have tried are safe mode, safe mode just propt etc.. It then will lock up when displaying the file paths, I have also ran the xp recovery cousel and tried scan disk it found unrecoverable errors, I have hooked the drive up as slave and it was detected and able to be stripped down, but this still bothers me and I am hesitant with the formatt reinstall easy out routine, any sugestions are welcome.

Have you tried a "recovery install" yet? Boot from the WinXP cd and when it finds the os already there it will ask whether you want to go to the recovery console, hit enter NOT "R". The next screen will give the correct option to hit "R" for a recovery install. This will rebuild the entire OS and when I had to do it, it saved everything that I had installed and all data.
