Everytime I restart my computer, it seems to take a while at the screen that displays "Windows is now restarting" in windows XP.
I was wondering if there are any tools I can use to optimize shutdown times. I've tried Bootvis and that dramatically improved my startup... but doesn't seem to affect my shutdown times.

In my tray I am running Norton AV, Norton IS, keyboard software, and weatherbug. Could it be the Norton programs that are stalling my computer?

NAV has an option to scan the A: drive on shutdown I think... Even if there is no disk, maybe it's still slowing down your restart.

there is a registry edit for reducing the shutdown times, which sets the time that it waits for applications to respond to its shutdown command (reg. key "timetokill"?). I think the default time is 20 seconds that the OS is willing to wait for apps to shutdown on their own and that can be reduced. I don't think tweakui has the setting option but I'd guess xteq tweak utility does.

edit...the reg. key might be called "WaitToKillAppTimeout"
