Problems with Windows/MSN Messenger

About 2 months ago I went on a vacation with the family. While we were there I wanted to get online so I borrowed my dad's laptop, and noticing that he was running XP Home and thusly had Windows Messenger built in I logged on using it to chat with a few friends. Big mistake. Now apparantly it automatically logs him on as me every time he connects to the internet and I can't figure out how to stop it from automatically logging on, much less how to remove my account from it. I thought I'd turned off the program in Services but apparantly it's still there. How the hell do I stop this so my dad stops getting mistaken for me?
 
Go into Options, and uncheck "Sign me in automatically when I connect to the internet"

Here you shoudl also be able to tell it to not start on Windows boot. If it decides to open when you open Outlook/Outlook Express, go into the Preferences/Settings in there, and disable instant messenger integration 🙂

There is no box labeled "sign me in automatically when I connect to the internet" or anything similar under options, which is why I was having difficulty. The outlook part, however, I was not aware of, so I'll have to check that. But the lack of that option box worries me. Any idea how I can remove my account instead?
 
The option box for toggling automatic sign-in is only present in MSN Messenger...there is no equivilent option in Windows Messenger.

Unfortunately, when logging on using his machine, you checked the option to have Passport remember your password (It's labeled "Sign me in automatically" on the .NET password dialog).

The easiest way to fix this: have your dad sign out your account. Then your dad clicks the phrase "To sign in with a different account, click here" (it's just below the sign-in button in the Messenger main window). Your dad then enters his own Hotmail account name and password, and also clicks "Sign me in automatically". In this scenario, it will stop signing in your account, and always sign in his account instead.
 
Right, thanks. That should fix the problem... though it's gonna be hard to get him to sign up for a hotmail account. I may have to do it myself 😛
