Problems with win2k network

I've got 2 computers, both with win2k pro, using ICS to share my 56k connection. All of a sudden, ICS has stopped working and I cannot fix it. I've completely reinstalled both sets of network protocols (I'm using netbeui). Please help!!!!!

If you share via software (ICS), you must install and Bind TCP/IP. NetBEUI can not handle Internet.

I have (and had, i forgot to mention it) tcp/ip installed on both computers, but it still doesn't work.

are both computers unable to access the internet? are you sure both are networked correctly?

The problem is that my secondary computer cannot access the internet when the primary computer is connected. The rest of the network works fine, i can share files, printers, play games, etc, just no internet access. It was working about 2 days and then just suddenly stopped without me changing anything.

Make sure that the secondary computer is using the first as its primary internet connection method, should be like connect throught the LAN. make sure all your cables are connected and still working. With a sudden stop like that it could be a silly thing like a busted cable..

I am positive it's not a cable or the secondary computer that's the problem, I booted my primary computer into Win98se and its ICS worked fine, so the problem is something with Win2k. Any ideas????

Have you tried running ip config on your secondary (win2K) system? This may solve it. the command line in prompt is ipconfig/renew

This should refresh the IP and other info for ICS.

General ques: how come you want win2k as secondary and not primary? Just curious

Clarification: I have two computers, primary and secondary. Primary has Win2k and Win98 on a dual boot, with Win2k as the primary OS. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I ran the ipconfig/renew, and I got this error message:

The following error occured when renewing adapter Local Area Connection: DHCP Server unreachable

When you run ICS, I believe it automagically assigns 192.168.x.x addresses to the host and remote computers correct? If that is the case, you should be able to run the ipconfig command (just ipconfig -- no /renew or /release or anything) on both PC's and see what your IP is. Since you say it works under Win98, I'm betting the host PC has lost its address or something. Maybe you can unshare the connection, then re-share it.

ICS automatically assigns a 192.168.0.1 IP address to the host and makes the client automatically find its IP. I tried disabling/enabling ICS, but it still doesn't work. Help!!

Things usually don't just stop working by themselves, barring hardware failure. Are you SURE you didn't install anything, remove anything, stop any services, etc. ? Is that your final answer?

I am absolutely sure I did not change anything. It worked at 3 am when I turned the computers off, but when I turned them back on at 2 pm the same day it did not work.

Maybe reinstall the remote computer's NIC under 2k. It works under 98, so it isn't a hardware problem. So maybe it has something to do with the driver. Worth a try, right?

I just tried reinstalling my NIC in my client machine, no go.

When I run ipconfig/all on my host though, it says that DHCP is disabled, could this be the problem?
