I have a problem that is stumping me
When I tried to upgrade to Windows XP from Windows ME, the blocking issue preventing me from upgrading was the upgrade advisor
program claiming there was an incompatibility between my mainboard (that being the ECS K7S5A) and my video card (that being the
Nvidia Geforce2 MX) and until I got that resolved, I couldnt upgrade -- it asked me to contact the manufacturers.
Since then, I have gotten the latest AGP drivers for the motherboard (I believe it was 1.08D for K7S5A) and also the latest detonator
drivers for the Nvidia MX. This however did not solve the incompatibility problem --in the testing programs' eyes anyhow. I have checked
the Windows XP compatible list at Microsoft, and while it says the Geforce MX is compatible, there is no listing one way or the other for the
K7S5A... but I have seen no indication since I bought these 2 items and running on Windows ME that my MX video card and my mainboard
are incompatible.
Someone suggested putting in another vid card to my system to let the tester pass the system and then just swap back to the MX after it
was done, but I have no spare video cards to do this.. so I wondered if it might be worth the money or hassle to buy another video card
to see if the Win XP compatibility tester prog likes it any better..(I'm open to brand and model name suggestions - I figured on either one
of the ATi Radeon models or one of the Guillemot Kyro chipset based cards) ).... or should I be looking for something to do with the
mainboard?
I didnt see anything really at ECS's site indicating there was a problem with K7S5a and XP and/or Geforce2 MX that needed to be
addressed... so I'm stumped over this... tho I have seen other people using Geforce based Nvidia cards that have had similar blocking
problems with the upgrade advisor. Any help would be appreciated.
