Problems with Win 2k running half life

I installed half life just fine on Win 2k. When I click the icon to play, I get the pop up, service pack 3 or higher required to play half life. The same win 2k disc is installed on 3 computers here at home, this is the only one puking.

Any ideas?
 
It was a fresh install. I had 98se on this box before I put NT on there. I have NEVER ran NT on any of my machines, Win 2k if first of the series to have that honor....

Have you updated to the latest version of HL? My roomie had the same problem where it would install but not play giving that error message. He says it went away when he auto-updated half life.
 
While I have never had a problem with Half Life, there is a fix for it.

Go to MS's support page and look up their game updates/fixes. I can't quite remember, but there's 3 releases, the 3rd including all of the previous 2. Half life was mentioned in the first fix
 
For me, Half-life runs fine under Win2k, but hangs the machine 2/3rds of the time upon LEAVING the game. Any ideas? This is the only hang this machine ever experiences.
