Problems with WiFi network.

Hi all,
I have three pcs, one desktop (Win XP Pro) connected directly to wireless router (Linksys WRT54G), one desktop (Win XP Pro) connected to network via Linksys Wireless "B" USB adapter, and a notebook (Win 2000 Pro) connected to network via Linksys "G" PC card.
Suddenly the desktop using the USB adapter won't see the network. Nothing has changed...workgroup name is the same, all the protocols are still appearing, all the usual stuff is enabled. Usually all that is needed is a reboot but this time I can't get it to work. It's been a while since I 've messed around with this so I'm a bit of a rookie at it all. I'm hoping for some quick pointers.
Thanks for any help or advice.

Since your laptop still works I would guess that the problem is with your usb adapter. Have you tried plugging your usb card into a different usb port?

However you could try soft reseting the router with the reset button on the back of the router (just press it once). If that doesn't work you can remove the power cable for a few seconds (essentially does the same thing.

Make sure the router is set to "mixed mode" so it will connect to both b and g devices.

make sure ssid is same. wep is the same bitness, same index, same code, same open/shared config(open is better oddly enough),... try using netstumbler to check if there are other networks fighting touse same channels. 1/5/11 are the only truly separate channels. or was taht 6 instead of 5.. bleh. g cards will have better range/reliability then b though. improved reception😛

After a week of fighting this exact same problem, it came down to a Belkin FD6050 USB WiFi adapter. On a WinXP system, it would recognize the SSID beacon of the WRT54G router, but would not connect. This started before and continued after SP2 was loaded on WinXP. A Windows 98 computer with PCI WiFi card was working fine, as was a Win2K system with PCMCIA card in PCI adapter, and my PowerBook with built-in Airport Extreme. What fixed the problem was switching the WRT54G router from mixed mode to B-only mode and then everything worked.
