No matter what software, patches, or those HP toolbox updates I install, the IDE controller keeps saying that it can't detect my CD-R. The thing is, the CD-R is still able to read stuff and is detected by the computer, but isn't detected by the CD creation programs. Everything is updated and plugged in.

Make sure you have an ASPI layer properly installed. You can get an ASPI check utility and an updated layer from Adaptec.

The ASPI layer doesn't come with W2K. If you search around this forum you'll find ways of getting, loading, and checking it.

Are you using those new Intel ATA 100 storage drivers. I had the same problems when I installed them in Win2k. I have the Same HP drive and it runs flawless in win2k with EZCD deluxe Nero Clone cd CDwin. I even updated the aspi layers and everthing continued to work fine.
