problems with VxD drivers- how to fix?

installed a transport driver on winME
ME hangs on shutdown aswell as startup so how to fix the problem with the VxD ? ( the inf file looks ok
installed ok on registry)
have looked at the bootlog.txt can not find any problems there
also have tried to perform a clean boot ...
have Run 'msconfig '
have cleared all check boxes under 'slective startup'
on the 'startup' tab have selected the *statemgr
then rebooted
BUT when i check the 'general' tab on eof the check boxes are greyed!
which means its not a truly clean boot!
so how do i make sure that i'm performing a clean boot?
any help appreciated
