Problems with USR external\USB modem

I have been using this modem (USR815633) for quite some time with no problems.Recently I upgraded my pc and bought a new mobo (Abit IC-7 G). Since then I am trying to figure out what has happened and the modem does not work.Everything looks fine on the device manager, the modem responds to the query commands, but when I try to connect all I get is dialling tone but nothing else.It does not take the phone off the hook and does not communicate with the remote host.Any ideas???Is there a chance that there is a port conflict????Does the USB external modem occupies a port?
