Problems with USB 2.0 enclosure (Bytecc)

I bought a Bytecc ME-320 USB 2.0 Enclosure. Installed the thing on my computer, windows xp detects it, works perfectly.

I use the "safely remove device" and then disconnect the usb cable. I reconnect the USB cable, windows detect it and it is still working fine. However, if I disconnect the usb cable, turn off the enclosure with the switch and then reconnect the usb cable and turn the switch back on, it is detected but I get an exclamation mark in device manager and it does not work. The only way to make it works again is to reboot the computer which is not exactly "hot swap".

I tried on 3 computers, two of them running windows xp and the other one windows 2000. I get the same problem on them.

Any ideas? (I will contact bytecc about that but anyway)

Yeah...I sort of have the same problem with my PluMax 3.5 external. When in a session I
sometimes attempt to safely remove the external drive (by right clicking the taskbar icon). It always
says I cannot do it at this time and to try later. I've gotten into the habit of leaving it on, shutting
down the machine, then turning it off....it doesn't quite work like a flash memory device...Greg

I always turn the power off to the external first before pulling USB cable..before turning on I make sure USB cable is connected then power the unit up..have no issues here..as always..ymmv

I tried everything possible and it's just impossible to shut the enclosure off and turning it on again. I have to reboot every time I do this. Anyone can do this with success with an usb enclosure?
