First off I can't get it to work with Ez-Cd 4.02 and now it won't run in Nero 5.0. It's noisy as hell on spin-up and it's noisy as hell when burning. Not that I would know if it burns or not. It won't write any cd's. It goes through the tests fine and then errors on the first track. I haven't been able to burn anything with it. I have it on the secondary ide channel with a DVD drive and DMA is enabled. But nothing works.

Can someone help me or did I get a bum drive? :(

I did the hack, mines now a plextor.
I had to buy Nero though because my TDK is not a TDK anymore, it says Plextor.
TDK's support is for sheit.

Did you hack it or is this a new drive. If it is new or under warranty and you did not hack it then I would return it. If you hacked it then you might have damaged it. Not all the TDKs are plextor/sanyo/burnproof mechanisms. Some of them are Ricoh/JustLink mechanisms.

I knew this was a Ricoh when I bought it. I just took it out of the box and it won't work. I'm taking it back to CompUsa tomorrow morning. Stupid drive. I'm gonna reformat when I get the new one working. :)

I"ve got that TDK drive and haven't had any problems at all with it. It works exceptionally well. It came with nero 5 as well, and there were no problems with that. I had to get the latest version of cdrwin to get it to work with that though. It sounds like maybe you got a bum drive there.

I have the same drive and it's kick ass. I did once have the tray open and at night in the dark I walked across my room and broke the drive. so I returned it and less than a week latter I had a new drive. maybe if you didn't do the worthless hacks and what not the drive out still work.

Its a Sanyo burner anyways so why use the hack? tdk and plextor are just names so no use changing the firmware for a dam name that you will only see in the control panel anyways.
