Right. My spec.

550mhz AMD AGR K6/2 (Core Voltage 2.3 volts.)
Mobo - GA-5AX, Gigabyte using Ali chipset.
96 ( 32 + 64) PC100 SDRAM - Good quality.

Now my Mobo book only has the spec for 550 set at 5.5 multiplier with bus speed 100mhz. Which is great. But it only has the 550 with 2.4 volt setup.

So I make my own up using the seperate info that the book says. So I set this up. at 2.3 volts.

Everything is fine for an hour. Works great runnin at 550mhz. Bout 1 -2 hours later the OS (Win98SE) gets really unstable. Have to reboot. So I re boot and system crashes. Over and over again. I restart PC.

I finally give up - I decided to reduce the mobo bus speed to 95mhz giving me 525mhz Clock speed.

This runs great, Im running that config now as I write this.

I have even tried to up the voltage to 2.4 volts. Still unstable. I have even tryed using 105 speed on 2.4 and 2.3 volts. Unstable.

Im not sure how high to go as this chip already reaches about 20 degrees and cos I dont really earn much (Student) I cannot afford to buy another if I blow it. And I certainly dont wanna Underclock my AMD like I am doing now.

Does anyone have any solutions? Mobo configs. Max temp of the AMD chip?

please help.

It looks like a heat problem. Check air flow inside the case (you may need additional case fan). Use thermal paste in place of the thermal pad between CPU & heatsink.
