Problems with Teac 512EB IDE Burner

Funeral

I installed my Teac 512EB Burner yesterday and it's acting kind of strange. I haven't tested the burn capability on it yet, but when I try to do some DAE, it only extracts at 1.2x. It's rated 14-20x for DAE. Anyone know what's up with this?

I have it installed as a secondary master. There is another, older cdrom on the chain, which used to be the master, but is now the slave. It still has no difficulty extracting at its normal speed.

I disconnected the second cdrom from the computer and DAE performance was still poor.

The drive is set to use DMA. It made no difference in DAE performance when I forced it into PIO mode.

I have used EAC .9 prebeta in secure mode (accurate stream), EAC in synchronous mode, and Nero to do the extracting. In EAC synchronous it got up to 5.0x.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I thought about flashing the firmware to see if that helped, but Teac's firmware page says that you need to have win9x/me to flash the firmware. I was going to flash anyway but I don't know how to disable the auto-insert notification in win2k.

Why is everyone having problems with this drive? Two posts in a row with problems...along with the others I've seen posted here...hmmm...😕

CQuinn,
I thought about that but I need to know how to disable the cdrom auto-insert notification in win2k as instructed by the flash program and the readme that accompanies it.

Bacillus,
Yeah, I'm running 4.25a.

I called tech support today and they didn't know what was up with the drive. I have an RMA to send it back. (The lady was kinda shocked when I told her that I had Nero and not Adaptec. Heh.)

Man, those Via 4.28v 4n1's f*'d my s* up.

2k now says that all my disk drives are SCSI even though I only have one SCSI drive. I can't set any IDE settings at all.

I'm gonna try those Beta 4.29's to see if maybe that fixes my problem with the 4.28s...

Funeral, with the ide driver from the beta installed my hardrive is no longer a scsi device. The system seems a little quicker. I didn't bother with the rest of 4.29 beta though just the ide driver.

Beta 4.29's worked fine after I uninstalled the IDE miniport that came with 4.28. Glad that's fixed.

Also, with the auto-insert info I felt brave enough to flash my firmware in Win2k. It worked, but it didn't fix the DAE problem.

Tomorrow the drive is going to be in a box on its way to Teac in California.

Hey Funeral, I PM'd you but just in case... I'm experiencing the same problems with only 1.5x DAE using EAC. Burning is working properly. Any fixes or recommendations? Did Teac send you a new one? Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.
