how do you change/fix/raise the sound output for a computer. i'm trying to help out a friend with his speaker output. His computer is having problems outputing sound. his computer is producing really faint sound and low volume even when everything is completey cranked up to the max. the drivers have been updated from MSI (motherboard) and nvidia (chipset). we have also tested this problem using another pair of speakers on this computer, and we still a low, faint sound. is this a software or hardware problem. any help or suggestions would be appericated. oh..yeah...we have checked the little speaker icon thingy in the corner of the windows xp systray and raised volume output to the highest settings all around. i have done the same thing to all the other windows and third party related sound apps and nothing has worked. is this a software or hardware problem? any help would be apperciated.

What sound card or onboard sound is he using? Have you tried a different card?

Are you using amplified/powered speakers?

When I changed motherboard to ECS L7S7A2 with C-Media sound, it can't drive my old un-powered speakers. It took me days to figure out that I needed a pair of powered speakers.

my friend is using the on board audio from his MSI K7N2 Delta-L motherboard. we have not tried an add in sound card, but we have tried plugging in a different set of speakers, these where powered and included a sub, and we got the same low output sound/volume. i mean it was louder, granted they were better speakers than the ones they replaced, but the max sound they reproduced on my friends computer was not any where close to what was produced on the computer where the powered speakers orginaly came from. oh...yeah....the speakers on my friends comp are unpowered.

You plugging the speakers into the correct speaker output jack on the mobo? My friend once hooked his speakers up to the microphone or line in jack and had the same problems as you.
