I've been using software RAID-0 on my linux server with 2 HDDs @ 7200rpm (on a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R + Intel i7 930) for a while, but recently something strange started to happen... every 30min-2-4hours the CPU goes sky high, most of it being used by the linux kernel:

(green=normal, red=kernel, purple=soft-irq [as htop states])
This is how it should look like:

(screenshot taken immediately after the CPU calmed down, usually it lasts for 3-5 minutes)
I recently kept reinstalling the operating system (either Ubuntu 10.04 or Ubuntu 10.10) and switching from 2 RAIDed HDDs to 4, then back to 2, then 1 SSD... and finally back to my initial configuration: 2 HDDs in RAID-0... somewhere on the road I did something (either using different Ubuntu version, or who knows), but since I did those changes this problem started. Any idea on how to track it down? I wouldn't reinstall the OS again (Ubuntu 10.10 => 10.04) until I'm sure it would fix it.
Any ideas? Please...
