Problems with sleep on XP install

My sleep function worked fine with w2k, I just installed a new hard drive with XP pro on it. Everything is fine BUT it will not come out of sleep mode . The HD catches for a second but it just hangs , even ctl-alt del does not work....only thing I can do is reset. Any ideas on what to try? I have a via chipset and I was thinking of installing the VIA drivers ver38 but I wanted to ask first. Thank you.
