Problems with Shuttle AK31a Sound

I'm using the onboard sound on my Ak31 Rev A and it's gotten quite flakey. The sound only comes from one speaker and sounds like hell - very heavy bass & rough, unclear sounds. It had been ok for several months then I noticed I lost sound on my right speaker (speakers are 2 Boston Acoustics satellites and a BA sub). I played around with the drivers a few weeks ago and it was fixed for a day or so. Now it's back to lousy again. Has anyone else had problems with this onboard sound? It was very nice for a while, now I'm regretting I ever game up my SoundBlaster LIVE! I'm running WinXP Pro.

any ideas?

Best I can. They appear to be in proper order as the sound itself as changed gone back and forth. I'm going to swap in an old SIIG card that I have around tonight to see if that sheds any light on the situation.

I suggest leaving the onboard chip disabled, and sticking with your add-on card.
I had poor quality, inconsistant sound, and some instability issues until I disabled it and went back to my old Ensoniq card.
Everything worked much smoother after that.
BTW: This was on the recommendation of many in this, and other, forums.</SPAN>

Install the VIA sound driver version 74mu130a or older, and don't update the sound driver using Windows Update. That has always fixed the problem for me and my customers.
