I received two SCSI HD's from somebody, and I can't get them to work. One is a WD LVD drive, and the other is an IBM U160 drive. I have an Adaptec 2940UW and a 2940U2W to try them with, but I can't get it work with either.
The WD get's detected sometimes with a regular UW cable, but it's random. I tried a LVD cable with active terminator and it gets detected normally, but I can't do anything with the drive. I went into BIOS of the controller card, and the drive shows up, but if I try and verify disk media or format the drive, I get an unexpected SCSI command failure with some hex code.
The IBM drive has a similar problem, but it's a little different. It gets detected normally no matter what I seem to use (I guess it's because there is a passive terminator jumper on the drive), but I get a "wide negotiation failed" message. I turned off wide negotiation in the SCSI BIOS, but then I get the same problem basically as the WD. I get the unexpected SCSI command failure message in the SCSI BIOS.
Are both these drives messed up? Because I've hooked up tons of things before and never have I had this many problems.
