Well i just got a router and i got everything plugged in correctly as the manual says but it doesn't work.. Well at the start both my computer had windows xp ... but i decided to uninstall one of the computers windows xp to windows 98 because it was running a bit slow.. but now the internet on that computer doesn't work... Would the problem be caused the one computer being XP and the other one 98?? Im use a D-link Broadband Router..

Routers don't care really if you mix operating sytems that are hooked up to them. I would never ever install xp only to go back to 98, you are just asking for trouble there. I would recommend doing a fresh install on that machine. What are the specs on that? What kind of internet connection are you sharing? Did try logging into the router?

Exactly on the logging into the router. What Dllink router are you using? Do you know how to go to the command prompt and find your IP address using ipconfig? That's the first place I would start. If the address starts with a 169., you are not pulling DHCP from your router, which is what you probably want. If you get a 192. address, try pinging your router.

Got to run, but that's a start.

How were you accessing the Internet before getting this router? Were you using the same ISP then? If so, did you have software that was provided by your ISP installed on your computer in order to access the Internet? If, it will probably have to be uninstalled; you may not be able to get an Internet connection until you uninstall it.

I first got DSL in Jan 2002. My ISP provided the DSL modem. I connected by single computer to the modem, installed the FastConnect software provided by by ISP, and was up and running. About 6 months later, I wanted to get a second computer connected to my same Internet line. So, I bought a D-Link DI-604 router. But, I also had to remove the FastConnect software.

I believe the technical issue here is that the FastConnect software made my Internet connection work under PPPoE. By installing the router, that would no longer work.
