Problems with Router recognizing new Cable Service

I had Earthlink's DSL service before (which had it's own router), and today I bought the self-installation kit from Charter for the Cable service. It came with it's own modem, and works great when you connect the modem straight to one computer; however, I can't get it to work with my router. The router that I have is the Linksys BEFW11S4. I never got a username/password for this modem so it seems to be just plug&play. Can anyone help with trying to get it to work with the router?

We can offer better help, if we know what brand name and model number of the cable modem.

I would call your cable company. Many cable companies will use a mac address to verify your connection.

You may need to reregister the mac address on your router for it to start functioning.

If you can get to the router setup (192.168.1.1 maybe) make sure the wan type is set to "obtain ip addy automatically", I believe dsl used PPPoE.

At least thats what I did when I went from dsl to cable.
