A month ago I aquired this beautiful piece of hardware. After using it for some time I noticed that this drive doesn´t like any CD-R discs other than from TDK or Ricoh. When not using those the burn quality is bad. Some discs can´t even be read after the burning. But when using TDK or Ricoh discs quality is flawless. All other features also work like they should. (RAW DAO with CloneCD is just sweet!)
My drive shipped with the firmware version 1.10, but 1.30 is already available. One thing that was improved was CD-R writing quality, according to the revision history. After downloading it I tried to do the update. After hitting the start button in the update software nothing happened for 10 seconds or so, than I recieved a message saying: Can´t change drive to up mode. Update failed.
After that the tray was locked but a reboot would solve this. I´ve tried everything to get this working, but nothing helped.
Relevant info on my system: P3V4X, PIII800EB, Win98SE, Ricoh mp9120a-dp as secondary slave.
Any ideas? I don´t want to be stuck only with TDK and Ricoh discs!
