Hello,
I just finished building my new system with the ECS K7S5A Pro mobo. However, when I shut down, Windows says "It's now safe to turn off your computer". When I hit the power button, the computer does not power down. To turn it off, I have to manually switch off the power supply in the back. Can anyone help resolve this problem?

My specs are:

XP Profesional
Amd XP 2000
256mb pc133
256mb pc100
2 physical hard drives
Nvida MX440 64mb 8x AGP
Allied 400watt PSU
HP CDRW

I'm thinking since I have not done a clean install of XP, it could be because of the Roxie software from the CDRW. I really don't want to do fresh install, but if worst comes to worst, I guess I'll have no choice.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

THANK YOU!

You must have disabled ACPI, because it should shut down on it's own with no button pressing necessary.

If you haven't done a clean install, your XP might not have adapted to the new mainboard's properties correctly - particularly not in the power control department.

Make sure you have ACPI enabled in BIOS, and make sure your XP installation is using the "ACPI PC" hardware abstraction layer (HAL).

Peter,
The ACPI has always been enabled in BIOS, so I suppose I will have to do a clean install of XP to resolve my problem? Please advise.

Thanks.

It does turn off if you hold down power button for 4 seconds, but It's kinda a hasle to do that way. I would prefer the system to completely shut down on it's own.

Try changing it from S1 to S3 or vice versa. If that does not help, try disabling your screen saver to see if that does the trick. if not, what have you got running in your tray?
