I am running Windows XP with SP2. Yesterday for no apparent reason my OE stopped working. The program will open but when I try to retrieve mail it says -- Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.cogeco.ca', Server: 'pop.cogeco.ca', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.
I have tried running sfc /scannow but it did not help anything. I tried reinstalling IE using the ie.inf procedure but it has no effect on OE. IE works fine. I tried to reinstall OE but it keeps telling me that I have a newer version and then kicks me out. I would uninstall OE and IE and reinstall if I knew how to do it. I have Netscape installed as well and it works but it won't allow me to set up a mail account. I have two other computers on my home network and I can retrieve my mail just fine with them using OE so the problem must be with this computer. I have checked the internet connection area and it is just fine. This is really puzzling and can't figure out what went wrong overnight.
