Problems with NTBACKUP

I am running an NT Server and have been having a recurring problem for quite some time. The server has been operational for around 2 years and has a Tape Bakcup (relatively new) running off of a SCSI card in there. The NT Server is Nt 4.0 SP6a running NTBACKUP.

The problem has become more common of late where the scheduled backup just doesn't run at all. I have seen this on a couple of servers and would love to know if there is any way of fixing it.
