Problems with new Rig amd 3800 x2

Alright, I am new to this forum but have been a long time computer user/builder. I recently built a new rig with the following specs:

Amd 3800 x2 (new)
Corsair Value Select 1gb 3200 2x512 Dual Channel Kit
Evga NF41 Mobo (new)
Evga 7800GT (new)
160GB WD
Tagan 480W PSU

My computer boots up and runs very well. I have not installed the amd dual core drivers yet because I didn't think I needed to. The problem I have is, when I run Prime95 (with all settings bone stock) it will fail. It only lasted an hour and a half before both cores failed. I used the small FFT test. I then tried the blend test and it failed in 5 mins. Mind you, I set up prime95 correctly to run on each core seperately. The only game i have installed so far is WoW and that runs very fast (except for the known 64fps cap) with no stutter. But it crashes to desktop after about 10-20 min with blizzard error report tool. What do you guys think the problem is? I'm guessing it is the memory but it worked FINE before on my old rig (P4). It even passed prime95 (i made sure to test it since i had a corsair value select come DOA on me before). The only thing I am thinking of doing is maybe seeing if the voltage is set at 2.7V and installing the drivers for dual core. But other than that, It looks grim =( . I'm at work so I can't even tinker with it and it's been weighing on my mind ever since I saw the dreaded "Fail" on my screen this morning.

my vcore is running at ~1.37V the last time I checked. Temps are good 30C idle, 4x-5x load. The HSF is mounted correctly from what I believe. It was pretty easy. Just sit it on the cpu and flick the lever right? I have the stock HSF btw. I used a credit card to spread AS5 on the chip and covered the entire surface with a thin layer ( can see writing ). Then I put a tiny dot on the center of the HS and put it on. I just don't see why at STOCK I could be failing. My memory timing is on auto and command rate 1T.

memtest your ram. that it ran fine on your p4 is irrelevant with your x2. and prime isn't a great test of ram anyway, even blend.

edit- i'm not saying your ram suddenly went bad. it just may need a vdimm bump or a timing adjustment.

Yeah, I'll probably do the memtest when I go on my lunch break. Although, I've read that some guys ram passed memtest but failed prime95 and he fixed it by RMAing his memory. I just hope it's not my memory. I'll never buy the corsair VS again if it is. Had too many die on me.

I have always had to run my corsair mem at 2.7, mostly with the 3800 x2 I had. I have also found that every mobo I have used puts it at 2.5 when spd calls for 2.7. Thus I would try that first!

I hope it's just a matter of giving it more juice =(.....I would think the SPD timings would work fine

Excellent! I'll probably try that after running memtest and again after I adjust it.

Alright. Everything seems stable now. After setting the vdimm to 2.75V and running memtest. It went through 1 pass alright. I played wow for about an hour while switching in and out to surf and chat. Seems stable. I left my computer running memtest as I went back to work. Hopefully no errors. Thanks guys! Btw, what monitoring software do you guys use for this mobo? The software that comes with it is a POS.

1 test on memtest is not enough, you need to run that for at LEAST 4 passes. Preferably you want to run it for 12+ hours.

Alright I got it, the voltage didn't really help. I loosened the timings to 2.5-3-3-8 2T and all is well. No crashes, no need to set affinity. I might go back and set the command rate back to 1T.
