Problems with new LCD monitor

They just upgrade the monitors where I work from CRTs to 17" Philips 170S LCDs. A lot of people are complaining about fuzziness, the brightness/contrast or when they scroll (slowly) the text jumps around and can't be read.

My personal opinion is that its a matter of getting used to it...and personally I'm pretty happy. Except I agree with someone else's assessment that it feels like its at a low refresh rate. For example, at home (CRT), when some of the games I play crash, the refresh rate sometimes goes to 60hz on my desktop, and I immediatly know it. I feel kind of the same with the LCD...it feels like the refresh rate is a problem.

We are all running at the recommended 1280x1024@60hz...the monitor doesn't support more than 60hz at this resolution, but as I understand it, 60hz on an LCD isn't at all the same as 60hz on a CRT...some people find 1280x1024 too small (reasonable complaint), but when they go to 1024x768 the text is like a fat/bold/poorly-AA'd...

Is it all just in our heads? Are we doing something wrong? Please help :)

LCDs really need to work at the native resolution. Anything else usually looks like crap

Refresh rate will more than likely be 60Hz, and that doesn't matter as much on LCDs as it did on CRTs.

If they are run at non-native resolution (1280x1024) they WILL look crap. Nothing you can do but tell them that they will have to either have it crisp and slightly smaller, or bigger and blurry as hell. Also, if you're trying to display 1024x768 which is a 4:3 resolution on a panel which is 1280x1024 which is a 5:4 resolution, it will look equally worse.

the majority of us are using it at the recommended settings (1280x1024@60hz) and are still not comfortable...

I wanna say it's just a matter of getting used to it...but that doesn't seem right....it shoulnd't take getting used to...

If they're using Windows XP, try the ClearType option under Display Properties/Appearance/Effects/Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:

Your monitor isn't really fast respose wise. Which is what causes the text to jump while scrolling. If they are being run off of an analog connector they have to be calibrated. Otherwise they won't look as good.
